Named for its closeness to the 1861 Battle of Wilson’s Creek (one of the largest first battles of the Civil War), Battlefield, MO is a fast-growing, family oriented community.
Incorporated as a 4th class city in 1971, Battlefield had 2,385 residents at the time of the 2010 U.S. Census. Today approximately 5,000 people call it home, and builders are currently hard at work constructing large subdivisions throughout the city.
If you’re considering living in Battlefield, here are some things you may want to know:
Missouri’s First Autism Friendly City
In April 2016, Battlefield became the state’s first autism friendly city. This means organizations such as Stars for Autism will give autism training to local businesses, churches, and city workers, and that the city will try to purchase more sensory and interactive playground equipment that will better engage autistic children.
Whether you want to buy an existing home or land to build a custom one, Battlefield has something for everyone. Homes are typically priced from the lower 90,000 dollar range to 250,000 dollars, though at times there are properties listed for more than a half million dollars.
Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield
You can learn more about the battle for which the city is named at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. Located a short drive away in Republic, it commemorates and interprets the battle within the context of the war in the Trans-Mississippi West. Visitors can also explore nature on the 4.9 mile paved tour road.
